50 years of the Kumanovo Art Colony

50 години Ликовна колонија Куманово

The Art Colony "Kumanovo" is one of the more established colonies in the Republic of Macedonia, with many years of experience and tradition, so the 50 years of existence (1974-2024) is a sufficient reason for such a large retrospective exhibition, at which, symbolically, as a sign of the anniversary, exactly 50 works of art were exhibited in the Salon of the Art Gallery.

In recent years, the Kumanovo Art Colony has been attended by a large number of authors, artists (painter, sculptor, graphic artist, etc.), from different generations (some even several times), both from the Republic and from several countries in the world and the region with academic education: Great Britain, Sweden, the Netherlands, France, Japan, Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Albania, Montenegro, etc.

Five decades ago, in 1974, the inter-municipal art colony "Prohor Pčinski" was formed between two twin cities in the then SFRY, Vranje (Serbia) and Kumanovo (Macedonia). The founders were the then Cultural and Educational Community of Kumanovo and the Workers' University of Vranje. The first session was held in the quarters of the monastery of St. Prohor Pčinski, near the village of Klenike. The first colony, which took place from 2-12 August 1974, was attended by ten artists, five from Kumanovo and five from Vranje. From Kumanovo, were Tane Atanasovski–Garski (1938-2006), Vladimir Veličkovski Kumanovski (1936-2015), Ivan Ocepek (1938-1989), Trajko Toševski (1950), Zoran Jakimovski (1953), from Vranj e: Predrag Savić Dragče (1939-2017), Miodrag Stanković Dagi (1943), Stanimir Kostadinović (1946), Vlastimir Stojanović Dubnicki (1949) and Jovica Dejanović (1957). The Fine Arts The colony "Prohor Pchinski" will last from 1974 to 1990. In Kumanovo, the colony, reorganized, continues to work after two years (due to the political circumstances in 1991 and 1992, it will not be held), in 1993 under the new name "Kumanovo". From then until today, although it will change the venue several times, it still exists and is the only colony in our country in which the state and local authorities cooperate. It is continuously financially supported by both the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Municipality of Kumanovo.

The exhibition has a retrospective character and aims to make a cross-section and present the most significant artists of Macedonian and foreign origin, as well as to present as many artists as possible who participated and left significant works. Particularly noteworthy are the works of the renowned foreign artists who will be presented at this exhibition: Denis Boven and Paolo Ciampini.
